Former Indian Cricketer AG Milkha Singh Passes Away At 75

Former flamboyant left-handed Indian cricketer AG Milkha Singh passed away at the age of 75 on Friday following a cardiac arrest at a hospital.
Milkha Singh belonged to a sporting family as his father AG Ram Singh, his brother AG Kirpal Singh played first-class cricket for Tamil Nadu. His brother Kirpal Singh went on to play for India as well.
Milkha Singh played four Tests for India making his debut against Australia in 1959/60. He also toured Pakistan in 1961/62 and played one Test against England the same year. In the match against England, he played along with his brother Kirpal Singh. This was the only instance when the two brothers played along each other.
Milkha Singh was a hard-hitting left-handed batsman and an excellent fielder of his time made his debut at the age of 17 and made his international debut on his 18th birthday.
Milkha had an illustrious career playing for the Tamil Nadu team scoring over 2000 runs in Ranji Trophy and scored over 4000 runs in first-class cricket which included eight centuries. Milkha Singh was employed with State Bank of India. He played his last Test for India before he turned 20.
His brother AG Kirpal Singh played 14 Tests for India and scored a century on his debut against New Zealand. Milkha Singh’s nephew and Kirpal Singh’s son Arjan Kirpal Singh also played for Tamil Nadu and scored a triple century in a memorable partnership with WV Raman who also scored a triple century.
Former Indian captain Bishen Singh Bedi expressed his condolence on Twitter and wrote, “Once the most attacking left-hand batsman o his times AG Milkha Singh is no more..’AG’ clan is diminishing..RIP Micky..Guru MEHR Kareh..!!”

Veteran coach MK Iqbal said:
” Milkha Singh was a stylish batsman, who served the state team for a long time and guided several young cricketers.”
The final rites will be held on Saturday by the family members.
