Former Spy Chiefs Urge India, Pakistan to Resume Bilateral Ties

Arch-rivals India and Pakistan haven’t played a bilateral series against each other for a long time now prevailing to the political turmoil between the two countries. But two former spy chiefs of India and Pakistan, Amarjit Singh Dulat and Ehsanul Haq have urged the two countries to resume bilateral cricketing ties between them which might help strengthen the diplomatic relations.

While Amarjit is the former chief of the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW), Ehsan is the former director general of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).

At a conference organised by the South Asia Centre, London School of Economics of the Pakistan Development Society and the South Asia Future forum in London, the two former spy chiefs of both the countries agreed that resumption bilateral ties could serve as a peacemaker between the two countries.

As per reports in the Geo News, both Ehsan and Amarjit said both countries to resume cricketing ties to give relief to people across two borders.

“India and Pakistan should play cricket to give relief to their people and reduce tension.”

The two countries have stopped playing full-fledged bilateral ties against each other since the 2008 terror attacks in Mumbai which got initiated by the terrorist across the border. They have kept on playing each other in ICC tournaments. In the recent Champions Trophy, Pakistan defeated India in the final to lift the title for the first time.

While India has been at the peak of their game across formats at this point, Pakistan on the other hand, despite winning the Champions Trophy isn’t quite the desired Champion side which would require going a long way in the coming years. While India recently defeated Australia in the ODI series by a 4-1 margin, Pakistan is struggling in the Test series against Sri Lanka.
