Virender Sehwag’s Gemini Arabians won the opening match of MCL 2016 against Jacques Kallis lead Libra Legends (Sourav Ganguly is the captain, but due to his unavailability Kallis leading the team).
After winning the toss, South African legend Jacques Kallis decided to field first in the opening match at Dubai (DSC).
Sehwag started in his unique fashion by hitting a six of the first ball of the match. He hit six to the left-arm pacer, Andy McKay. However, Sehwag departed after scoring 21 runs in 11 balls. After a mini hiccup, Sri Lankan legend Kumar Sangakkara and opener Richard Levi carried on, as Levi scored 62 runs in 43 balls while Sangakkara made 86 runs in 43 balls. At the end, Brad Hodge also played a quick-fire knock of 46 runs in just 19 balls. As a result, Gemini Arabians put a big total of 234 runs for the loss of 3 wickets in 20 overs.
In reply, Libra Legends never looked like achieving that mammoth total. They managed only 156 runs at the end for the loss of 8 wickets in 20 overs. Ryan ten Doeschate, 53 runs, scored the most amount of runs for the team. Kyle Mills, Naved-ul-Hasan and Muttiah Muralitharan picked up 2 wickets each for Gemini Arabians.
Kumar Sangakkara received the first man of the match award in the MCL history for his outstanding knock.
