One of the most powerful hitters and also one of the most destructive batsmen in the modern era of Cricket, Glenn Maxwell, off-late stated that he was almost in for England cricket team while playing county cricket for Hampshire.

Glenn Maxwell had an outstanding IPL season this year where he scored many tons and almost destructed the opposition with his intent aggression in most of the matches. He had the best strike rate in the seventh edition of IPL. This player is now considered as one of the most destructive batsmen in the World Cricket and by his level of dominance in IPL 7, he has proven this fact.

Maxwell spoke to the ECB website and claimed that he was tempted by the option gifted by English country as there was uncertainty surrounding his future with Australia.

Maxwell said, “It worked out for the best”. He also added by saying “When I first came over here, I had an English passport and I was thinking about converting to an English player.”

Maxwell is now one of the power packs of the Australian batting and Australia relies much on him in the shortest formats of the game. He has grown up to be Australia’s one of the prime players for Australia off-late. Maxwell can single handedly win any game for his team and he is a match winner with sheer power. He also does possess the ability to clear the ropes quite easily and with immense power.

He also won the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award in the recently concluded IPL and was hugely responsible for KXIP’s incredible performances in the last IPL. He, in fact won several games for KXIP single handed and was a consistent match-winner for them in the initial phases of IPL 7.

“I wasn’t sure how my cricket was going back home and I really just wanted to play the whole season as an English player in the first-class arena. I had the option of doing that, and after a long chat with Giles (White, Hampshire director of cricket), we decided to go against it,”  Maxwell said in an interview.

The destructive batsman from Victoria now wants to keep himself focussed in the Australian line up and is excited about making his mark in the Australian test squad somewhere in this year.

“It obviously worked out for the best because they gave me plenty of opportunities as an overseas player in the T20, and I got picked up for Australia soon after that. So it was a good choice and I’m very thankful to him for that.” Maxwell stated on a concluding note.

He is a great batsman and is expected to be the pivotal character for the Australian line up in years to follow.
