Glenn Maxwell Determined To Cement ODI Spot After Brisbane Heroics

Australia all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has said he is determined to cement his spot in the ODI side after playing a vital knock of 60 runs in first One-Dayer against Pakistan at Brisbane. His cameo helped Matthew Wade notch his maiden hundred, which eventually saw hosts going 1-0 up in the five-match series by 92 runs.
The outspoken Victorian was in news from past couple of months for all odds reasons, and thus was criticized for being unprofessional in his approach. He was also dropped from the ODI XI to face New Zealand in the Chappell-Hadlee Trophy in December 2016.
Maxwell, however, returned to the national circuit with an attacking innings on Friday and is hopeful of continuing his good run of form, when both sides meet for the second One Dayer in Melbourne on Sunday.
“I’ve been hitting the ball really well, having changed a few things technically and mentally. It feels like it’s all coming together and I feel really at home at the crease at the moment. It’d be nice to do a Wadey (Matthew Wade) and be that 100 not out and really seeing us through that whole innings.”
As the Australian Cricket Board (ACB) is set to announce the squad for the Test series against India on Sunday, the 28-year-old said if granted an opportunity to play Tests again, he’ll to make the best of that opportunity.
“Having not been in the Test squad since 2014, it’s a long time between drinks, that’s for sure. I just know if I get that opportunity, I’ll be desperate to keep hold of it and to stay there”, he concluded.
