The Shaheed Vijay Singh Pathik Sports Complex, primarily known as the Greater Noida Cricket Stadium has been granted international status by the ICC, which means the ground is now allowed to host international games, thus becoming the 48th stadium in India.
“We got the intimation from the ICC last night (Wednesday),” a top BCCI official told Mirror.
The ICC authorities visited the stadium during the Test series between India and England and then granted international status to the stadium.
The Greater Noida Stadium hosted the Pink-Ball Duleep Trophy in the month of August/September followed by few Ranji Trophy games as well. Currently, it is also the adopted home ground for Afghanistan cricket team, who shifted their base from Sharjah to this place last year. They are now scheduled to play three T20Is, five ODIs and a four-day Intercontinental Cup match against Ireland next year in March.
However, this stadium will have to wait to host the Indian team as it can accommodate a crowd of 8000 people, which is on a lower side. But it will soon be considered to host big matches soon as Feroz Shah Kotla has always been in troubled waters and thus, this stadium can emerge as a substitute of it.
