Team India Women’s team captain revealed her favourite actor in the Bollywood fraternity and it is none other than Mr Perfectionist Amir Khan. The latter has undoubtedly been one of the leading heroes in the Bollywood fraternity and is regarded in the same league of Shah Rukh and Salman Khan. He is considered as the actor who can’t be given a role unless he is pretty sure of executing it to perfection pretty much like what Mithali Raj has been doing for the national team for the last 17 years.
It was again Mithali who led India to the World Cup final and just like 2005, the Indian eves let go their opportunity and lost the match by a mere 9 runs to surrender the coveted title. They were in command of proceedings for the majority of the game until Anya Shrubsole returned for her 2nd spell and skittled out the Men in Woman for just 219 for 182/3. She finished with 6 wickets which paved the way for the hosts to stage a comeback.
The run out of Mithali Raj cost the visitors dearly as she played the sheet anchor’s role and carried her bat for most of the matches. She revealed later that her spikes had got stuck in the pitch and there was no way back for. It was an unfortunate way to get out of a player of Mithali’s calibre, especially in a World Cup final.
She ended the tournament as India’s leading run scorer without making any fuss. She went about her business in a sedate manner and made history during the group game against Australia. Not only did she become the leading run scorer in Women’s ODI’s, she also became the 1st woman cricketer to notch up more than 6000 runs in ODI cricket.
The Indian team received a grand welcome on their return to India and was felicitated by the Sports and the Union Minister Vijay Goel and many other state governments. Mithali was awarded Rs. 1 crores by the Telangana government for her immense contribution to the cricketing world. Most of the players were awarded good cash prizes and many were offered top ranked government jobs.
