Veteran off-spinner Harbhajan Singh, on Friday (May 26), tore into the media for misquoting him.

A news report published by NDTV on Thursday (May 25) caused quite a stir among the cricket fraternity after the discarded spinner reportedly told them that he did not enjoy the same privileges as former skipper MS Dhoni when it comes to selection matters.

“Yes, there is no doubt that MS Dhoni brings a lot to the table apart from his batting, whether he is in form or not. Obviously, we have seen that he is not hitting the ball as well as we have seen,” Harbhajan was quoted by NDTV.

“But when it comes to me. I do feel that we are not given that sort of privilege. We too have played for 19 years and won and lost India matches. I have won two World Cups too. So this privilege is for some players, and for some, it is not and I’m one of those for whom this privilege is not there. I don’t know why that is the case,” Harbhajan had added.

However, Harbhajan has denied making such statements and blamed the news outlet for misleading others and tarnishing his image just for grabbing attention. In a series of tweets, the 36-year old cleared the whole scenario and also posted a video of the interview to clarify his statement.

Calling Dhoni his dear friend, Harbhajan tweeted:

“MSD is a dear friend &a great player, I never doubted his selection so please don’t quote me on things which I never said against him”

In his last tweet, the Punjab star blasted the news outlet for publishing a fabricated news.

” just to run ur sites n create ‘sensatiinonal stories’ don’t misquote & run out of context to harm someone elses image.,” he tweeted.

The ace spinner, who last played for India in a T20I against UAE in March 2016, is currently not a part of the 15-man Indian squad for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy. The ace spinner also struggled to get regular games under his belt in the recently-concluded Indian Premier League.

With Karn Sharma doing well, Mumbai Indians preferred the leg-spinner ahead of Harbhajan Singh in the latter stage of the tournament including the qualifiers and the final.

However, Harbhajan still managed to make a mark with his impressive bowling. In 11 matches, he managed to get only eight wickets but had a brilliant economy-rate of only 6.48.
