Harbhajan Singh wants Leander Paes for Rio Olympics

The social media have been buzzing as Indian tennis player Rohan Bopanna has expressed his desire to not partner with Leander Paes for the Rio Olympics later this year.

Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh has had his say on the ongoing debate as he supported Leander Paes to represent India at Rio Olympics. Having served the nation for so many years, Bhajji knows what it takes to win anything for the country as he was one of the first to raise support to the veteran tennis player.

The 42-year old Paes is getting support for all over the nation as everyone feels that Bopanna – Paes duo can give India the best chance to win a medal at the upcoming Olympics.

In a tweet, Harbhajan said that Paes was India’s best chance for a gold medal and that he hoped that the All India Tennis Association would make the right decision.

The All India Tennis Association is set to meet on 11th June and will make a final decision on the issue. Paes has already released a statement in which he expressed his desire to pair up with Bopanna which will give the nation a good chance for a medal.

Similar issues have happened in 2012 Olympics as both players refused to play with each other due to which Paes was partnered with Vishnu Vardhan and Bhupathi partnered Bopanna. Neither team had won a medal despite high ambitions.

Harbhajan Singh has been one of the finest sportsmen of India and Paes is arguably the greatest tennis player India has ever had. It is still yet to be known whether AITA would pair the dynamic duo for the better of the nation or would leave it to the players will as time clocks down.
