Harmanpreet Kaur’s Coach Feels Her Dream Of Winning The World Cup Is Not Far

The only name which has been doing the rounds in the last couple of days has been that of Indian batting sensation Harmanpreet Kaur who smashed a scintillating 171 in the semi final of World Cup against 6 time The World Champions Australia and took India to the final of the tournament for only the 2nd time in their history.

Harmanpreet’s coach Yaduvinder Singh Sodhi revealed that he had spoken to Harmanpreet before the clash against Australia and had said that to realise her dream of winning the World Cup she has to perform in the final and the Semi final. She has passed the test with flying colours in the first hurdle but she has to keep going and score some runs in the final as well.

“I did speak to her before the match. I told her that your dream to win the World Cup for India is not far and you have to deliver in the next two matches. She delivered in the first and let us see what she does in the final now,” Sodhi was quoted as saying to the mid day over the phone yesterday. Sodhi conceded that playing with the boys from an early age has helped Harmanpreet develop these hard-hitting abilities.

“Girls practising with boys is a common sight in our Gian Jyoti Cricket Academy (in Punjab). The girls can improve by playing with the boys,” he added.

Harmanpreet made the Australian bowling attack look clueless in front of her brutal assault. When she came into the crease India was struggling at 35/2 and it took a long time for Harmanpreet to get going.

She scored 41 in her first 60 deliveries but from there on it was just mayhem. Fours and sixes kept flowing from her blade and Meg Lanning was running out of ideas. Wherever they bowled Harman kept on swinging through the line fetching boundaries on a consistent basis. Her unbeaten 171 came in a mere 115 deliveries, an innings which was laced with 20 fours and 7 hits over the fence.

The Indian bowlers then bowled in great lines and put the Aussies on the back foot pretty early on after reducing them to 25/3. Despite a valiant fight from Alex Blackwell and a good contribution from Elyse Villani, the Aussies eventually fell short by 36 runs which prevented them from lifting their 7th World Cup title.
