The left-handed batsman Harpreet Singh Bhatia of Madhya Pradesh has had a flying start to this year’s domestic season as the former Under 19 player smashed a double century against the Suresh Raina-led Uttar Pradesh in the first round of the Ranji Trophy. He came to the crease when Madhya Pradesh was two down on a score 81, he joined the veteran batsman Devendra Bundela in the middle and accompanied him till M.P. crossed 200 run mark.
Bundela was trapped in front wickets by Piyush Chawla. However, it did not affect on Harpreet as went on to play his natural game scoring runs at a good pace.
Harpreet has a habit to see off the new ball and then attack bowlers when the ball becomes smooth but yesterday he surprised by batting at a similar pace, no matter the ball is new or faded. He cruised to first double century of his career which included 23 fours and 3 sixes.
Harpreet has started this season from where he left last year as last year as well he scored 2 centuries in the semi-final and final apiece. He is slowly taking giant strides and will soon be on the selection radar if he continues this form. With a new bunch of selectors mentioning that they follow domestic cricket, it will be difficult for them to ignore him for long.
Harpreet has been part of Kolkata Knight Riders in past.
