Veteran commentator Harsha Bhogle is all set to make a comeback in the commentary box after an exile of more than one year. The noted cricket expert will be commentating during the India’s tour of West Indies, which will kick off on June 23.
Bhogle himself revealed the news on Twitter and wrote –
I go from here to the West Indies. Am looking forward to hosting cricket and doing commentary from there. Your support has meant a lot to me
— Harsha Bhogle (@bhogleharsha) June 18, 2017
He was dropped from the commentary box before the start of IPL 2016, which was a big surprise, as Bhogle then commented that no one informed him regarding this.
It is believed that few of the Indian players have complained to board regarding him making comments on players. Murali Vijay and Virat Kohli were few of them to have expressed objection to few of the comments made by him.
Later, the matter received more air when legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan indirectly questioned Harsha Bhogle during T20 World Cup. The matter could have been put to rest but MS Dhoni too jumped in it and just like Bachchan, questioned Bhogle indirectly. Soon after this, Bhogle was dropped from the commentary box for IPL 2016.
It will after a long time when he will be commentating during an India match. Though he was seen as a cricket expert during IPL, but he was there in just Hindi commentary and his name was not on the official list issued by the board also. He was one of the notable exclusion from the list of commentators for the Champions Trophy as well and it looked like BCCI is in no mood to make a way for him in the commentary box but finally, the COA has brought him back within few months of taking the charge.
The five-match ODI series kicks off from June 23. A lone T20I will follow the ODI series. Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah are two of the players who have been rested for the tour, with Rishabh Pant and Kuldeep Yadav two new entrants in the Indian team. West Indies have retained the 13-member team which they played against Afghanistan.
