If you ask any person as to what are the specialties of Calcutta, the most likely answer would be Football, Roshogulla and Saurav Ganguly. This great former Indian captain has completed 42 glorious years today. 

Well, he is not just a former captain of the Indian team but also a very good commentator and the President of editorial board of Wisden India. Recently, he has been associated with one of the franchisees of Indian football. Very often, he is seen taking part in the promotional events for other sports. He regularly writes for a number of sports columns. He is followed by a huge number of people.

Popularly known as Dada, Saurav Ganguly is the heart throb of entire media and he is known for his blunt opinions. Dada has played 113 tests and scored 7212 runs. Further, in 311 ODIs, he has scored 11363 runs.

As on date, he is the 5th highest run scorer in international ODIs. For his brilliant contributions to Indian cricket, he has been awarded the Honor of Padma Shree in the year 2004. A left hand opening batsman and a right arm medium pace bowler, Ganguly was known to be a very hardworking talented cricketer whose fearless batting had given immense contribution. Especially, while playing alongside Sachin Tendulkar, he had paved the way for a number of wins for team India.

One can easily acknowledge the vital contribution made by Dada, as not many Indian cricketers have scored 16 centuries and 35 half centuries in Test cricket. Likewise, Saurav’s record in ODIs is also very impressive as he has got 22 centuries and 72 half centuries to his credit. In first class matches the figures are equally shining – 33 centuries and 89 half centuries. This speaks volumes about the skill, talent, hard work, devotion and more so obsession depicted by Saurav Ganguly.

Throughout the regime of his captaincy from 2000 till 2007, he had established himself as a most dynamic captain. His bold and aggressive decision making infused confidence among his team mates. He used to implement good bowling strategies. Very often, his immaculate field placement yielded positive results. His chemistry with the seniors and new entrants was appreciated by one and all.

Many fans believe that Saurav has the rich experience to take over a major role for guiding team India in the near future. He is truly a legend.
