Bangladesh’s ace all-rounder Shakib-Al-Hasan registered his name into the history books after playing a monumental knock of 217 against New Zealand in the ongoing first Test.
The score is now the highest individual score for Bangladesh in the longest format of the game surpassing the 206 scored by Tamim Iqbal against Pakistan at Khulna in 2015.
The star all-rounder also shared a record 359-run partnership for the fifth wicket with Mushfiqur Rahim which is now the highest partnership for Bangladesh for any wicket. The previous highest partnership for any wicket for Bangladesh was the 312 by Tamim Iqbal and Imrul Kayes for the first wicket against Pakistan in 2015.
So with Shakib Al Hasan getting a place into the record books by becoming the highest individual scorer for his country, we at Sportzwiki are having a look at the highest scorers of each country:
Dave Houghton holds the record of the highest individual score for Zimbabwe in Test cricket after scoring 266 against Sri Lanka at Bulawayo in 1994-95. Considered as one of the finest batsmen to play for the African country, he had almost scored 60 percent of the innings score in that match.
He came in the middle when his team were reeling at 5 for 2 and have suffered another setback when Houghton was almost run out soon after, but that was probably the last time the visitors came close to dismissing him as he batted for over eleven hours and faced 541 balls, hitting 35 fours and three sixes to score 266.His monumental knock helped his team to enforce a follow-on for the first time in Tests but Sri Lanka managed to draw the match.
