Pakistan batsman Younus Khan, who is just 19 runs shy from becoming Pakistan’s leading run getter in test matches has said that he should not be compared with Javed Miandad, who is the record holder. Younus, who has been in the form of his life for Pakistan in test matches has often given out blunt and outspoken remarks in the past, but this time around he seemed calm.
With the test series against England commencing tomorrow, Younus might be just one day away from creating history. “It would be great to achieve the record. I never thought I would do it at the start of my career,” said Younus.
“Passing Minadad would be great but I am in no way close to the great man who is a legend of Pakistan cricket. Even after passing his tally of runs I would not be able to attain the heights that Miandada achieved. He was idolized by millions,” said the Pakistan middle order batsman. “Records aside, I want to bat for my country and the best identity for me is not record. I want to be recognised as a batsman who always played for his country,” said Younus.
Khan also made it clear that he was not under any pressure to break the record. “I am feeling very normal, there is no pressure on me,” added Younus. “This is important series for us so I want to do my best for the team and for the country,” Khan said.
