Sourav Ganguly

Former India skipper Sourav Ganguly has predicted a 4-0 whitewash of the Australian team in the Test series against India. Ganguly was the one who predicted England’s drubbing as well and the Poms got outclassed by Virat Kohli’s men 4-0 in the five-match series.

“It will be very difficult for Australia. I predicted before the England series that it would be 5-0. It became 4-0. Australia will go the 4-0 way against India. I will be very surprised if India doesn’t win 4-0,” Sourav Ganguly said on Monday.

Ganguly said Indian spinners will wreck havoc in the series as spin has been the main trouble for the Kangaroos whenever they have toured sub-continent.

“It will be because of the same thing that has made India dominant at home over the last 25 years — spinners,” he said.

“They just keep coming, one after the other. Anil Kumble and Harbhajan Singh in my time. Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja now. You just hand the ball to any spinner, you just give it to Amit Mishra, he wins you games. You give it to Yuzvendra Chahal, he wins you games. You give it to the off-spinner, Jayant Yadav, he wins you games.

“So that’s what it is — spin. In India, you have to play spin well and bowl spin well to win. It’s simple,” Ganguly added.

The Test series between the two countries start from February 23 with the first Test to be played in Pune. Bengaluru, Ranchi and Dharamsala will host the next three Tests respectively.
