Virat Kohli, who had taken over as India’s Test captain in the middle of the Australian tour, appears to be fully prepared to begin his first series as a full-time Test captain with India’s tour of Bangladesh starting June 10.

During an interview with ESPN Cricinfo, when compared to Mahendra Singh Dhoni, he asked, “Why make comparisons? I am a different character. I am a different personality.” Recently veteran cricketer Kapil Dev also suggested that Kohli should learn to hide his feelings like MS Dhoni. Also, Australian cricketer Steve Waugh had asked Virat Kohli to learn from Dhoni’s composure while leading India.

Virat Kohli said, “There is no point giving away what you are thinking to the opposition, who can gain unnecessary advantage. I understand that. One of the keys to being a good captain is not letting your emotions come on to your face when you are leading the side in the field. That is one of the most important things, which I want to improve on. There are some things that stay consistent in captaincy throughout the world…not being too expressive, having a thick skin, absorbing what is going on in the game.”

However, Kohli quickly added “But I will never change myself for anyone or because anyone wants me to change. It is just these small things that I need to improve on, but that instinct of being aggressive as a captain will remain.”

On the issue of scaling the level of MS Dhoni, Kohli said that it is not easy for any new captain to achieve what his immediate predecessor has done for the team. Kohli also frankly admitted that India’s current ODI skipper Dhoni has never shown authority on his players and he knew best how to create a balance between senior and junior players.

He elaborated, “It is very hard to better or improve on what he [Dhoni] has done for Indian cricket. It is amazing how composed he was leading the seniors during his early years of captaincy and how relaxed he is leading the youngsters.”

In fact, keeping in view his Test performance during the recent Australia Tour, millions of his fans are expecting a scintillating individual performance from Kohli in the upcoming tour of Bangladesh and are also looking forward to see his bright performance as the captain of Indian Test Team.
