ICC Champions Trophy 2017 – 2nd Semi Final – India Vs Bangladesh – Indian Predicted XI

Not many would have expected two Asian sides clashing in the semi-final of the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 even a week ago. The tournament has witnessed an incredible turnaround, which began with Pakistan’s morale-boosting victory over South Africa. Bangladesh’s awe-inspiring run chase against New Zealand at Cardiff after being down and out was another positive factor.

India roared back to form in some style against a helpless South African outfit at the Oval to top Group B and book a date with Bangladesh. While fans of both the teams exhibit blind hatred for each other on social media, the teams are least bothered by what’s going on off the field. The last time these two sides clashed in a high profile event, it was the quarter final of the 2015 World Cup, and well, it was marred by some serious controversy.

This time around, however, India would look to win in a more comprehensive manner and to do so, the team must get its playing XI spot on. Below, we have a look at the predicted Indian XI.

Shikhar Dhawan
  1. Shikhar Dhawan:

Dhawan has once again emerged as the leading run-getter of this particular tournament and another dominant show on Thursday could mean him again winning that prestigious Golden Bat. With two half-centuries and a century by his side, Dhawan has looked in supreme touch and invincible. His dismissals too in all three games came against the run of play while trying to play the big shot. The southpaw will be eager to maintain his run of rich form.

  1. Rohit Sharma:

The way Sharma got out to Morne Morkel in the last game, he would be eager to make amends for that against Bangladesh. The Mumbai batsman loves batting against Bangladesh and the memories of his majestic 137 against the same opposition in that World Cup quarter-final are fresh. He would do his side a great favour if the right-hander repeats his heroics of Melbourne.

  1. Virat Kohli (c):

Captain Fearless Virat Kohli has been oozing class in this particular format ever since the last 18 months and each time he steps out in the middle, fans expect this batting monster to pile up a real big score. While a big century during an ICC event knockout is still missing from the captain’s arsenal, he could easily score one against the team he relishes batting against.

Yuvraj Singh.
  1. Yuvraj Singh:

There was a clear reason why India recalled their greatest ever match winner of this format for the tournament. The need to get a move on in the middle overs had plagued the side for quite a while and thus Yuvraj was given an SOS call. Till now since his comeback earlier this year, the elegant southpaw has impressed every time.

MS Dhoni
  1. MS Dhoni (wk):

Playing his first ICC event since the 2007 World Cup purely as non-captain, Dhoni has batted just once in this competition so far. He got a fine half-century and finished with a flurry for India in the game against Sri Lanka and had no signs of rust. In case he bats on Thursday, Dhoni would love to do what he is so renowned for – Finishing in style.

  1. Kedar Jadhav:

In several ways, it would be appropriate to term Jadhav as India’s X factor with the bat. The Maharashtra batsman can get going right from the very first delivery and be it regular strike rotation or finish with big hits, this experienced batsman is capable of all aspects. A good outing against Bangladesh will just second that statement.

  1. Hardik Pandya:

While questions were raised over Pandya’s inclusion against South Africa, all rounder justified the team management’s faith in him by bowling his full quote and also picking up the wicket of Faf du Plessis. If he manages to pick up a wicket or two and remain economical at the same time, India would have a massive strategic advantage.

  1. Ravindra Jadeja:

There is surely something which brings the best out of Ravindra Jadeja every time he plays in England. The Saurashtra lad’s numbers in this part of the world are phenomenal with both bat and ball. It was his supreme comeback in the second spell against South Africa, which gave India the momentum.

  1. R. Ashwin:

India made an absolute blunder by benching R. Ashwin against Sri Lanka but rectified that against the Proteas. It was Ashwin’s initially breakthrough of Hashim Amla which provided India with the momentum in the previous game. The spinner will be eager to trouble the Bangladeshi batsmen with his off spin.

  1. Bhuvneshwar Kumar:

Kumar now isn’t just restricted to a plain new ball bowler. Rather, the UP pacer has completely widened his dynamics and now is a genuine wicket taking option at any stage of the game. Considering his recent form, a lot will be pinned upon Kumar.

Jasprit Bumrah.
  1. Jasprit Bumrah:

Bumrah’s confidence will be quite high after being named the Man of the Match against Sri Lanka. He was extremely tight and accurate with the new ball against the Proteas and didn’t leak any runs at the top. Another strong show from him could book India for the final at The Oval.
