ICC Champions Trophy 2017 – Video: Ravi Ashwin Outclasses Hashim Amla

Just as it seemed that South Africa was about to take off after an extremely sedate and laid back start, India’s comeback man R. Ashwin ensured that no such thing happened as he outclassed the run machine Hashim Amla. Electing to bowl first after winning the toss on a warm and sunny London morning, Virat Kohli was a relatively pleased captain after his Pacers didn’t allow the Proteas openers any freedom.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah were right on the money as neither of the openers could free their arms. After the first ten overs, the South Africans were just 35-0 and the Indians had begun quite well.
In pursuit of a breakthrough and making sure that the openers didn’t convert their starts into big scores, Kohli soon turned to the experience of R. Ashwin. Even though he hasn’t played any game in this tournament before this one, the off-spinner began with complete accuracy.
He didn’t allow the openers to milk the ones and twos and keep the scoreboard ticking. With pressure mounting on, Ashwin opted to vary his pace, as on one occasion he flighted the delivery, while on another, he just zipped through the surface.
On the third delivery of the 18th over, Ashwin bowled a straighter one and Amla perceiving the ball to spin, looked to cut. The ball took a healthy edge off Amla’s willow and went straight into the ever safe gloves of MS Dhoni. India finally got its first breakthrough to maintain their dominance.
Below, is the video of Amla getting dismissed by Ravichandran Ashwin:
