On February 17th, Australia‘s pace superstar Mitchell Johnson said the ongoing conjecture about skipper Michael Clarke‘s health was not creating a diversion for the International Cricket Council World Cup 2015 dark knights.
Michael Clarke’s hamstring problem meant he was benched as co-hosts Australia initiated their bid for a 5th World Cup title on Saturday with a huge 111 run smashing of arch-rivals England in Melbourne. It is hoped Michael Clarke will be healthy enough to come back for Australia’s 2nd Pool B match against Bangladesh in Brisbane this coming Saturday following an enthusiastic performance during last week’s warm-up game against the United Arab Emirates.
Johnson said that he loves the captaincy that Michael Clarke brings and he also added that he has got so much practical interactions with events and George does as well. But Michael Clarke has been the skipper for a number of years now. I know he has full support of Australian team.
Johnson emphasized there were no remaining concerns about Australian skipper’s fitness and that the discussion about what role the captain would play in the ICC World Cup had not been a matter for the rest of the team.
HE said he knows that he is ready to go but he does not know from a playing angle of view what the plan is. He is doing what he requires to do. He is not creating it a diversion for the team. Whenever that opportunity is when he gets back in the team will be ready for him.
In normal situations, talk of changing a winning team after such a convincing victory in the 1st match of ICC World Cup would be considered as unnecessary and Johnson added that excluding anyone from the squad following Australia’s display at the Melbourne Cricket Ground would be difficult.
He said that they can always get best at sure things likw not lose wickets so closely together but the fielding was great throughout that match. If they can keep that charge up he thinks they will gain their confidence throughout this World Cup.
