On Monday when fast bowler Sohail Khan was sidelined by a calf problem during a warm-up game against Bangladesh, Pakistan were hit by a fresh ICC World Cup injury problem.
Sohail Khan, a surprise addition in the team, bowled 6 overs and got 1 wicket before he was sidelined by a calf problem at Sydney’s Blacktown Olympic Park Oval. On Sunday, opener Mohammad Hafeez also withdrew from the fifteen man team with an ankle injury as injury problems mount for the 1992 champions.
Team media officer said that Sohail Khan got a cramp in his calf muscle and as a safeguard he did not bowl after 6 overs. He also added that Sohail can still play without any problems and they expect he will be well soon.
Pakistan’s bowling attacks are being severely tested after Umar Gul was ruled out before the team was declared and Junaid Khan had to withdraw later. Pakistani spinner Saeed Ajmal’s new bowling action was announced legal on Saturday but the ruling came too late for his inclusion in Pakistan’s team. On Wednesday Pakistani opener Nasir Jamshed and pacer Rahat Ali have been given late call-ups and will come to join the team. On Wednesday Pakistan will play another warm-up match against England before opening their World Cup crusade against defending champions India on Sunday.
