ICC has released the new Test rankings and a good news has come India‘s way with Ashwin becoming the No.1 Test bowler, taking over South Africa‘s Vernon Philander . Bangladesh‘s Shakib Al Hasan is placed 3rd among the all rounders. Ashwin scored 40 and 46 runs at Old Trafford during the 4th Test match of the Investec series , which India lost by an innings. Though Ashwin did not do anything significant with the bat and went wicketless in the 14 overs he bowled. Ashwin now has 372 rating points with Philander having 365 points.
In the batting department, Kumar Sangakara has regained the Number 1 spot, removing South Africa’s AB Devilliers from the top. Sangakkara recently scored his 10th double century at Galle and went on to become the player with second highest double centuries in Test cricket, a record which he jointly shared with Brian Lara before. India’s Virat Kohli and Cheteshwar Pujara had to suffer for their poor display in the ongoing series and have gone down in the rankings. Pujara is now placed 12th and Birat Kohli is placed ar 20th position.Sangakkara has now spent 81 Tests as Number 1 in the batting charts.
In the bowling rankings, English bowlers have raised on the rankings after their performance against India.James Anderson has climbed to 5th spot and Stuart Broad has rose to 9th spot.Moeen Ali has also jumped to 33rd spot, moving away from the tag of part timer.The bowling charts is being led by Dale Steyn and is being followed by two Australians , Mitchell Johnson and Ryan Harris.
In the Indian line up, Ashwin leads the chart with him placed at 13th position,though he has dropped by one position. He is being followed by Pragyan Ojha , who is placed 15th and Ishant Sharma who has moved up to 20th place after leading India to a win at Lords .
