ICC Warns Dawlat Zadran, Mohammad Nabi For Breaching Code Of Conduct

Afghanistan fast bowler Dawlat Zadran and all-rounder Mohammad Nabi were warned by world cricket governing body International Cricket Council (ICC), for breaching the Code of Conduct during the four-day match of Intercontinental Cup against Ireland in Greater Noida on Thursday (March 30).

However, both experienced campaigners for Afghanistan were reprimanded in two separate incidents during the same game.

After Afghanistan thrashed Ireland by an innings and 172 runs on last week, the Khost-born Zadran was handed over three demerit points to his name after throwing at Peter Chase’s leg during the first innings of Ireland.

However, the action was deemed deliberate attempt as Ireland’s No.11 batsman was well inside the crease who further didn’t attempt a run in the 89th over.

“Dawlat was found to have violated Article 2.2.8 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to “throwing a ball (or any other item of cricket equipment such as a water bottle) at or near a Player, Player Support Personnel, Umpire, Match Referee or any other third person in an inappropriate and/or dangerous manner during an International Match,” ICC release stated.

On the other hand, the 32-year-old Nabi’s disciplinary record was also added with one demerit point after trying to mislead on-field umpire in the 21st over.

Balbirnie was batting on 40 when the incident took place as Nabi was later on charged for breaching the spirit of cricket.

“Nabi was found guilty of breaching Article 2.1.1, which deals with conduct that is contrary to the spirit of the game,” it added.

The ICC rules suggest those players who are supposed to have four-plus demerit points to their name in two year’s time, will be converted into suspension points which further states the players will be banned for two matches either two ODIs, two T20Is or Intercontinental Cup game whatever would come first for the players, who were found guilty of breaching the Code of Conduct.

“Four or more demerit points within a 24-month period will be converted into suspension points. Players with two suspension points against their name stand to earn a ban from either an ICC Intercontinental Cup match, two ODIs or two T20Is, depending on whichever comes first,” it further added.

However, ICC didn’t come up with the formal hearing as both players had accepted the offence, which was proposed by the match referee Graeme La Brooy.

“Pursuant to Article 7.6 of the Code, if Dawlat and Nabi reach four or more demerit points within a 24-month period, they will be converted into suspension points and they will be banned,” it concluded.

Moreover, the charges were levelled by both on-field umpires CK Nandan and Pakteen Ahmed Shah which further included Bismillah Jan as the third umpire.

Nabi has played 80 ODIs, 55 T20Is whereas, Zadran has played 56 ODIs, 32 T20Is for Afghanistan since making their debuts in 2009 and 2011 respectively.
