India have announced their 15 member squad for the 2015 World Cup. There were some surprises in the squad which includes the likes of Stuart Binny and Akshar Patel ahead of an extra batsman or an extra pacer.
The squad does not include any senior players like Yuvraj Singh, Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, Harbhajan and Zaheer Khan. Instead, the selectors have opted for a young and energetic squad for the extravaganza.
Only 4 out of the 15 members from the triumphant 2011 World Cup team have made it to the 2015 ICC World Cup to defend the crown. With the exception of MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli, Suresh Raina and R Ashwin, the remaining 11 players are World Cup rookies.
Let’s see what they bring to the table as a combined unit.
MS Dhoni and Suresh Raina are the only two players to have played over 200 ODIs each with Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja have played over 100 matches. The rest of the players have played less than 100 ODIS and the entire squad has played 1242 ODIs between them.
The current team has scored a total of just over 30,000 with MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli and Suresh Raina being the main contributors with 8192, 6208 and 5051 runs respectively. Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan have scored over 2000 runs each. The 2011 World Cup squad had over 45,000 runs between them before the tournament kicked-off.
50s and 100s: 178 fifties and 48 100’s
