Legendary Pakistan spin bowler Abdul Qadir stated that Pakistan national selection committee has made a correct decision by adding two leg-spinners in their 15 man team for the International Cricket Council World Cup 2015.
Abdul Quadir was one of the best bowler of his era. He could bowl six different balls in an over. In 1987-1988 When he took 9 wickets for 56 runs against England it is impossible to trust that wrist-spin has ever been bowled better than Abdul Qadir did in Lahore.
The Express Tribune reported that Abdul Qadir, said that it was a very courageous decision and a bet to include both Shahid Afridi and Yasir Shah in the 15 man team. Shahid Afridi is an all-rounder who can bowl leg spin. Variations is his strength and as well as a conventional leg-break, he has 2 googlies, an orthodox offie and a deadly faster one, though this is growingly rare. He properly jostles through overs, which in limited-over formats is a weapon in itself and the package is menacing.
Yasir Shah is a leg spin bowler who can bat a little bit. He made his first class debut when he was not even sixteen years old. After nine years of wait he was placed in the One Day International Pakistan team against the Zimbabwe.
Abdul Qadir, who took 236 wickets in his 67 Tests believes that leg-spinners could turn out to be game winners on their day but it would be difficult to bowl in Australia and New Zealand. The report added that he also added that if the pitches suit them, then they could turn out to be unplayable.
The International Cricket Council’s (ICC) pinnacle tournament is planned to be jointly held by Australia and New Zealand from 14th February, 2015.
