The kiwis have registered their fifth straight win in this World Cup. They are in flying form and are presently looking to be unbeatable at the moment.
The veteran left arm spinner, Daniel Vettori admitted of the fact that the real competition starts in the quarter finals which will be the knock out phase of the tournament.
As a matter of fact, New Zealand looked to be incredibly well as a bowling unit. In all the five matches, they managed to bowl out their oppositions under fifty overs. In the initial overs, the pressure is well created by Southee and Boult which is followed by the spinning brilliance of Vettori in the middle overs.
Vettori set up another milestone in his cricketing career when he grabbed his 300th ODI wicket in the match against Afghanistan. He managed to strike 4 wickets for his team in that particular match.
He said that the real game is going to start from the quarter finals and then no consistent performances of the group stage will get any consideration. Also, the teams which qualify for the knock out phase of the tournament will have match winners for sure.
He also mentioned of the team that it will be a tough competition in the quarter final irrespective of which team they face in the quarter finals.
The 36-year old bowling all-rounder is New Zealand’s most accomplished bowler and is also the 12th player in the history of ODI Cricket to reach to 300 ODI wickets. Also, he became the first New Zealand player to reach to such a level.
With 5 wins from 5 matches, New Zealand is likely to top the Pool A. They have already qualified for the quarter final spot. If they manage to top the group, then they will be facing the fourth team from Pool B.
This will however give them a slight advantage as the fourth ranked team, whoever it will be has not been much of consistent in the World Cup so far.
