Over the years, India delivered a quality number 4 batsman. They ruled the roost at that slot before losing out their places for obvious reasons. Meanwhile, of late, the Indian team suffered a lot for the perfect replacement at that slot, where they finally satisfied with Vijay Shankar for the upcoming ICC World Cup 2019. Meanwhile, Gautam Gambhir believes KL Rahul is a better option.
Other than Vijay, there are quite a few options in the hand for the Indian management with KL Rahul, MS Dhoni and Kedar Jadhav. Among them, the former stylish batsman of India Gautam Gambhir believes that KL Rahul is well suited for the team to play at number 4.
The flamboyant batsman from Karnataka has gone through a lot in recent times. However, he made a stellar return by smashing it more often than not for the team. In addition, KL Rahul recently said that he would be happy to play at any slot for the team.
KL Rahul should ideally bat at number 4 – Gautam Gambhir
Gambhir in an interview felt that the final call will be in the hands of the team management. However, as far as his personal opinion is concerned, he strongly believes that KL Rahul would do the job for the team.
“It is about the team management to decide but it will be very crucial to see who bats at No.4. For me, K.L. Rahul should ideally bat at that slot. He is best suited among the others – Dinesh Karthik and Vijay Shankar. He has been in good form in the IPL and I am sure, he is going to carry that form into the World Cup,” Gambhir told Sportstar.
The fifth bowler worries me – Gautam Gambhir
Further, he went on to add saying that the fifth bowling option will be a concern for the team. Gambhir quoted that the wickets of England will go flat as the tournament progress. The performance of Hardik Pandya and Kedar Jadhav will be crucial for the team.
“The fifth bowler worries me,” Gambhir said. “All conditions have become similar so it doesn’t matter whether you are playing in England, Australia or England,” he said.
Well, it would be interesting to see how things would pan out for the youngster. Most probably, India would start with Vijay Shankar at number 4 as MSK Prasad mentioned during the squad announcement. With the tournament being so long, the rotation of players will be on the cards.
