After thrashing West Indies by 257 runs in their previous match, South Africa will face Ireland in an all important Pool B match on the 3rd March 2015 at Canberra. The match will start at 9.00 AM IST. South Africa were exceptional in all departments against West Indies while Ireland beat UAE by 2 wickets to register their second win of the tournament in as many matches.
South Africa have an in-form batting line-up. They have Amla and Quniton de Kock at the top, followed by du Plessis, explosive de Villiers, Duminy and Miller. In the previous match against West Indies, all of them (except Duminy who was ruled out due to injury) came to the party. Amla and du Plessis set a good platform and then de Villiers played a magnificient knock of 162 off 66 balls to help South Africa post a big score of 408. The bowlers performed very well with Dale Steyn, Morne Morkel, Abbott and Tahir all picking up wickets.
Ireland also have a strong batting line-up. At the top of order, they have Paul Striling and Captain William Porterfield followed by Ed Joyce, Kevin and NJ O’Brien, Wilson and Mooney. Wilson and Kevin O’Brien are also in good form. The bowling looks decent with Mooney, Sorensen, Mcbrine and slow-left arm Dockerell, who bowled well for 35 overs but leaked too many runs in last 15 overs against UAE. They have to be at their best if they have to contain a strong batting line up like South Africa.
Previous World Cup encounters
ICC World Cup 2007, Super 8 , Providence (South Africa won by 7 wickets)
ICC World Cup 2011, Group Stage, Eden Gardens, Kolkata (South Africa won by 131 runs)
Key Players to watch out for:
South Africa: AB De Villers
The Captain of the team played one of finest innings of the World Cup 2015. He scored 162 runs off 66 balls. He came in the 30th Over and just smashed the West Indies attack into pieces. The base for AB De Villers was set up by DU plesis and Amla. He was at his best and South Africa would hope that he continues his good form against Ireland.
Ireland: Kevin O’Brien
Kevin O’Brien played a quick fire knock of 50 off 24 balls against UAE. They were struggling at one stage but he came and just changed the momentum of the game with his power-hitting. Ireland openers must give a good start so that Kevin O’ Brien can come and make a huge impact in the game.
