Afghanistan vs West Indies

Afghanistan stunned the cricket world after achieving a victory against West Indies by 6 runs. It was the match between Afghanistan and West Indies at Nagpur on Sunday afternoon in the Super 10 stage (Group 1) of WT20 2016.

After winning the toss, West Indies captain Darren Sammy decided to bowl first. Afghanistan put 123/7 on the board in 20 overs. In reply, West Indies felt 6 runs short from Afghanistan total.

Some of the statistical highlights of the game are given below:

  1. It was the first T20I win for Afghanistan against Top 8 cricket nations. Also it was the first meeting for Afghanistan against West Indies in international cricket.
  2. It was the 2nd lowest total which successfully defended in WT20 history. Sri Lanka defended 119 runs against New Zealand in 2012 WT20, which is still the successful defended lowest total in WT20.
  3. Afghanistan left-arm spinner Amir Hamza bowled an excellent spell of 4-0-9-1 with 2.25 economy rate. It was the third best economy rate (bowlers who bowled 24 balls) for Afghanistan in T20I.
  4. Afghanistan batsmen Najibullah Zadran and Mohammad Nabi put 34 runs partnership for 6th wicket while Najibullah Zadran and Rashid Khan put unbeaten 20 runs partnership for 8th wicket of their innings. Both of the highest partnership for Afghanistan at 6th and 8th wicket in WT20 history.
