Australian cricket got a massive blow as their star opening batsman David Warner has been ruled out for at least the next two weeks due to a finger injury.
During the 4th ODI match of the ongoing West Indies tri-nation series, which was played between Australia and South Africa on Saturday at St. Kitts, Warner got a massive blow to the tip of his left index finger. Later x-rays revealed that the finger caught a fracture.
Due to that injury, Warner will be sidelined from the upcoming matches of the ongoing tri-nation series and probably ruled out from the whole tri-nation series.
The Australian cricket team’s doctor Geoffrey Verrall said that Warner would be sidelined from the cricket in between 2 to 6 weeks. Verrall said, “We will assess the situation over the coming days to see if the injury requires a surgical option. But should that not be the case then David is likely to be available to return to play in somewhere between two and six weeks.”
Warner hit a century in that match as he scored 109 runs in that match. Australia won the match by 36 runs and Warner was declared as a player of the match. With this injury, inform left-handed batsman felt disappointed but also looked out at the positive sides.
Warner said, “It’s obviously disappointing to be sidelined given the form I’ve been in and given the important stage the tri-series is at, but it’s always important to look at the positives.
“This downtime, however, long or short it is, will give me the chance to freshen up and spend quality time with my family after an intense period of action, with a home summer that was followed by trips to New Zealand and South Africa, plus the World Twenty20 and the Indian Premier League.”
Justin Langer, the Australian interim head coach for the tri-series said, “It’s doubly disappointing to have David Warner sidelined because of his outstanding form plus his attitude and professionalism around the group which has been a joy to work with.”
“But we’ve spoken from day one of this tour about every single person in the squad contributing to our success.
“I’ve encouraged the players not in the starting eleven to be ready at all times because you never know when opportunities might come. One of the boys will now get that opportunity in David’s absence.”
After examined the x-ray reports in the few days, it will be decided that whether Warner would be sent home or not.
The tri-series final will be held on 26th June. Due to the short-left time of the ongoing tri-series, a replacement cricketer may not be called even if Warner finally ruled out from the series. Australia had brought 16-man squad for the tri-series.
Currently Australia is on the top of the points table of the tri-nation series with 9 points (played 3 matches).
