IND vs AUS 2017, 2nd T20I: We Need to be More Responsible – David Warner

Across their tour of India, the Australian batsmen have resembled fishes outside the water. Throughout the five ODI’s, batting collapses were a common sight, as the Indian wrist spinners ruled the roost in the all-important middle-overs.

Thus, due to the colossal failure of the middle-order, Australia struggled in nearly every game of the tour. A knowledging Australia’s woes across the tour were the team’s stand-in captain for the T20I series, David Warner. In the pre-match conference ahead of the second T20I in Guwahati, Warner felt the batsmen needed to be far more responsible than what they were.

Australia’s record in their recent overseas ODI’s spark no confidence, as the Kangaroos were winless in the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 in England. Not to forget, the Steven Smith-led outfit was even whitewashed 5-0 in South Africa last year.

“I think if you ask each individual, you have a sense of responsibility no matter what. It’s not just me It’s not just me but everyone, who puts that captain’s cap on. You’ve got a responsibility, you’ve got to lead your troops. It’s great fun, we enjoy it, but I enjoy going out there and winning games for my country and whichever team I’m in front of. And if I’m leading it, I’m doing the best of my ability, even more than you normally would just to get the guys in the right direction as a leader.”

“We have to play like the way we know, and that’s the brand of cricket we bring to the table. You can’t worry about is a collapse going to happen. No one is worried about that at all. We have to keep backing ourselves 100 per cent. We know that when we do well, we do very, very well,” Warner added.

The southpaw concluded by mentioning that Australia would look to win the second game.

“We try to win every game if possible. Just getting a victory over here — it’s going to be tough, it’s going to be challenging. You have to play to the best of your ability. If you give India a sniff on home soil or even away, or any team for that matter, they’re going to pounce, aren’t they? You have to be at your best to beat an opposition in their country. Got a lot to play.”
