The pressure on Australia was mounting with every passing day. For the defending world champions, it never looked decent when you have 13 winless overseas ODI’s to your name.
A win was just what Australia needed in Bengaluru, and nothing less would have been enough for the visitors, against an Indian side that was simply quite dominant. The prayers got answered, as the ever flamboyant and destructive David Warner came to the party at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. Warner was in a zone of his own, as he took the Indian bowlers head-on. His initial tactical gains over Mohammad Shami and Umesh Yadav perfectly set the tone for the rest of his innings.
Reaching the 14th ton of his career in his 100th ODI, Warner made his celebrations clear, with a cheer. Thanks to his sublime knock, Australia amassed 334-5 on board, which eventually turned out to be more than enough against India.
For the win, Warner was named the Man of the Match, and he was delighted with his knock in the middle.
“It feels fantastic. Put a great smile on our face getting this win tonight. To come out here and play the ODI format in India, on wickets I’m quite used to, is fantastic,” said Warner.
“Really enjoying it. We set out from the front to be as conservative as we could and bat deep. Winning gains you some momentum. The way the guys played with the bat was fantastic. Good to see guys execute their skills they’ve been honing in the nets,” Warner added.
