IND vs ENG: India In Driver’s Seat After Alastair Cook’s Dismissal on Day 4 of Vizag Test

India dented England’s hard-fought resistance on day four after a late strike from Ravindra Jadeja, who dismissed Alastair Cook, put hosts in a comfortable position to grab a win in the second Test match at Visakhapatnam.

Resuming their innings at 98/3, India made worst possible start to the day. Stuart Broad firstly sent Ajinkya Rahane back to the hut before scalping Ravichandran Ashwin for just seven. Wicket-keeper batsman Wriddhiman Saha did not bother the scorecard either as he was trapped between bat and pad of Adil Rashid’s delivery.

The leg-spinner then got the big fish Virat Kohli, who was caught excellently by Ben Stokes in the first slip. The right-handed batsman played a mature innings of 81 runs but was knocked down by some really good bowling. India in no time nose-dived as they lost 4 wickets in a matter of just one hour.

Ravindra Jadeja after striking couple of lusty blows was also seen walking back to the pavilion. Debutant Jayant Yadav, who tried to anchor the ship, later on, couldn’t get much support as the host collapsed at 204, setting a target of 405 for England.

Coming out to bat in the second session, England started with a defensive approach, indicating a draw in their plan-sheet than to go for a win.

The batting pair showed grit and class to outfox the spinners on the dusty surface of day 4. Solid defence, good technique and patience were all but effective as the hosts were left frustrated with the lack of wicket-taking opportunities. Came in two moments when the situation seems to stride towards India’s favour as Ashwin once and Jadeja later used DRS, which apparently went in vain.

After bowling 302 balls, India finally got a success when its ace-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin got young Haseeb Hameed caught in front of middle and leg stump. The partnership was finally broken, giving a much-required relief to the Indian captain.

Moments later, Alastair Cook’s hard-fought resistance came to an end after Ravindra Jadeja trapped the skipper in front of the wicket, in the same manner, he did it in the Rajkot Test. Cook, after facing 188 balls, was given out for 54 runs.

India, in the end, got a fruitful result for tight lines throughout the innings. With a day to go and England requiring 318 runs with seven wickets in hand, all three results are very much on the cards.

England At Stumps On Day 4:

India – 204: Virat Kohli 81(109), Stuart Broad 4/33, Adil Rashid 4/82.

England – 87/2: Alastair Cook 54(188), Haseeb Hameed 25(144), Ravindra Jadeja 1/25.
