While garlands and swarms of fans are a common sight when it comes to welcoming players, New Zealand was in for a major surprise when they arrived in Rajkot for the forthcoming second T20I against India.
The players welcomed with a picture showing Ross Taylor not in a very cheerful mood with the cliched caption: ‘Welcome Team New Zealand’. And while his teammates did not express their surprise over the welcome, Taylor made sure to make his feelings public.
The senior Kiwi batsman took to Instagram to express his surprise over the welcome on his first visit to Rajkot.
“First time to Rajkot. Didn’t expect this photo on arrival at the hotel.??? #Rajkot #India #indvnz,” wrote Taylor who had recently left the fans in splits with his hilarious conversation with Virender Sehwag on Twitter.

Meanwhile, the Black Caps will be looking to bounce back from the massive drubbing in the first T20I at the Feroz Shah Kotla when they take on Men in Blue in the second game in Rajkot.
Barring the toss which went Kane Williamson’s way, nothing much went New Zealand’s way, as the world number one T20I side lost the game by 53 runs. Batting first, India rode on the fifties from Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma and some late fireworks from skipper Virat Kohli to post a mammoth 202 for three. In reply, New Zealand kept on losing wickets at regular intervals and eventually managed to score 149 for eight.
Speaking after the game, Williamson had conceded the high-flying hosts thoroughly outplayed his team.
“Like I mentioned, we were outplayed in all the areas, fielding included, which is something we pride ourselves on and something we need to be much better at in Twenty20 cricket. That made the difference as we saw today that proved to be vital in a lot of ways. Guys went on to score big scores for their side in the Indian team, and 200 on that surface was a very big total,” Williamson had said after the defeat.
