The much anticipated Gandhi-Mandela series is all set to commence on October 1st. The marathon series features 3 T20 internationals, 5 ODI’s and 4 Test matches. While South Africa has announced their squad earlier, India has picked their squad today. The T20 series will kick-start the proceedings at Dharamshala followed by ODI series and then the long 4 Test match series.
One can hope for a competitive series between these two gigantic sides across all three formats of the game. South Africa are no.1 ranked side in Tests while India are placed at the 5th position below Pakistan. However in ODI’s India are ranked at no.2 position while the Proteas are at the no.3 position. India edges out South Africa in T20 rankings as well as they are ranked at no.4 position while South Africa are at no.6.
“South Africa are the No. 1 team in the world,” Shastri told bcci.tv. “We have to play consistent cricket for long periods of time to put them under pressure. That will be the endeavor. Our style of play will not change. If you reflect on our performances in Australia and Sri Lanka, you will see that consistency was the difference between defeat and victory. Sustained brilliance will be the key against the Proteas.
“And that – not letting the opposition off the hook after having them under pressure – demands a lot of patience. We weren’t patient enough both in Australia and during the first Test in Sri Lanka. Once the patience and discipline came, in the next two Tests, we saw the results.”
