Indian openers dominated in the first session on day 1 against Bangladesh as they went to an early lunch with the scores on 107-0. The lunch was taken 20 minutes earlier courtesy a steady rain. 22 overs were possible in the morning session win which Shikhar Dhawan and Murali Vijay managed put on a 107 run partnership with Shikhar Dhawan being the destroyer in chief with an unbeaten 72 ball 74.
Choosing to bat first after winning the toss, Indian openers started off slowly as they ahead the wicket to perfection before playing some glorious shots. Dhawan was at his fluent best as he drove the ball with elegance through the off-side and straight down the ground. Dhawan was severe against Bangladesh’s lone frontline pacer Mohammad Shahid as he plundered Shahid for 18 runs in an overs before reaching his fifty off 47 balls.
Bangladesh used all their 4 spinners but failed to break the deadlock as both Dhawan and Vijay looked at their best. Vijay was at his defensive best and scored some odd boundaries while Dhawan kept dispatching the ball to the fence. Bangladesh’s only chance of a wicket came just before the players went in due to rain when Shugavatta Hom spilled a catch off Dhawan’s hands.
Brief Scores: India 107-0 (Shikhar Dhawan 74*, Murali Vijay 33*) vs Bangladesh.
