India Outplayed us In ODI’s, Will Do Better At Eden Gardens: Jason Roy

England’s hard-hitting batsman Jason Roy has stressed that the visitors would give their best to end the One-day International series by a win at Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Sunday after being outplayed by the hosts in the first two ODIs in Pune and Cuttack respectively.

“Of course you want to finish the series on a high but every game from now on till the Champions Trophy is going to be stepping blocks for us going into that huge competition,” Roy said quoted as saying by PTI.

The 26-year-old Roy has stated that the ongoing One-day International series is the ‘stepping blocks’ for the Champions Trophy which is scheduled in England and Wales in June 2017

Having the depth in batting, England side was outclassed by the all-round performances from Men in Blue, but Roy said the side is taking a lot of positives from the games they have played so far.

“We’ve got a huge amount of positives to take from the last few games. Although we got outplayed, we have put in some seriously good performances. We’ve scored 350 in the first game and 366 in the second. Those are positives to come out of that are amazing,” added Roy.

Roy, who wished to stay longer enough on the crease to score big, where he failed in his plan, but the English batting line-up has given the decent performances in the two outings while scoring 350-plus on both occasions.

“On both occasions I needed to stay in and get big hundreds. I should have done that, that was the plan. It didn’t work out that way but like I said our batting unit got us to 350 and 370,” he said.

After his partner, Alex Hales was ruled out of the remainder of the games due to fracture in his hand. The rookie Sam Billings is expected to open the innings with Roy who praised Billings for showing some promise in the recent past for England.

“There’s nothing wrong with the team. We’re training very hard and having a good time. But like I said before, we’ve been undone by some incredible individual performances.

Disappointed about the currents series, Roy also said Billings would be a fit to play at Number two while having the wide range of shots which would set the momentum for England.

“He’s a fiery batsman. If he gets the role of No. 2, that would be great. He’s a great guy to bat with — runs hard, plays strong shots and that’s exactly what we look for at the top of the order, just to set the tone,” Roy said on Billings.

Roy was dismissed on zero when he played at the Eden Gardens in the World T20I final in 2015 against West Indies which they eventually lost by four wickets after Carlos Braithwaite hit the four consecutive sixes on the bowling of Ben Stokes to stun everyone.
