India v England 2016: Bishan Singh Bedi Praises Virat Kohli, Lashes Out At England

Bishan Singh Bedi has seen the best and the worst time against England, he was the part of the Indian team that won their maiden Test series against them in their own country. He was also the part of the team that lost to England in the year 1967. He knows this team better than anyone else. He has played against many of the icons of the game and has played along with them during his country stint. But this is the team which has disappointed Bedi the most, preferably due to their form as the former left-arm spinner, who is known as few of the outspoken personality in Indian cricket blasted at this team, “I am most disappointed at this team. Their body language has been atrocious apart from the fact that they have been dropping catches and not cashing on the toss which they won in two of the three Tests,” Bedi told mid-day.

“Nothing is going right for this England team and no sport is worth watching if there is no contest,” he added.

Praising the Indian skipper Virat Kohli he said, ” He is at the peak of his form and has worked hard for his success. This Indian team can beat England anywhere.”

This is probably the biggest achievement in the life of Virat Kohli as its never easy to make Bedi praise you. In past, there have been plenty of occasions when Bedi has openly criticised players and hardly we have seen him pouring praises on someone. The special ability of Virat Kohli and the aura he perceives is the biggest factor why everyone, including Bedi, is in all praise for the Indian Test skipper.

Bedi further counted out the weakness and the factors which have led to the downfall of England cricket team on this tour and said, “What is missing is the doggedness of the past. They lack players like Ken Barrington and Geoff Boycott, who could drop anchor.

“On this kind of wickets, you need the tight defence to stay. You also need loads of concentration and that is not happening,

“There is a temptation to go for your shots with a nice, meaty bat, but you can’t go for your shots all the time. This is Test cricket. However, I like the attitude of that 19-year-old kid Haseeb Hameed.”

“Your true character emerges when the chips are down. You don’t need a break, you need to get into the cricketing groove. If you are jaded then, what price professionalism? Surely, England would not have been seen with such poor body language against Australia. They would have been torn to shreds by their media.

“Look at how Australia are coming back. They won the third Test against South Africa, but it cannot be called a consolation win because they went after South Africa. That is called spirit,” Bishan Singh Bedi, the former coach of Indian cricket team added.

It has been an awful tour for England so far as the team showed a bold image in the first Test when they missed a chance to win the game by just four wickets but from then, their form has caught up downward route, as a result, they are lagging behind by a margin of 0-2, the only thing they can now do is draw the series. Chances of this event happening looks dim and bleak now.
