Ravindra Jadeja, on Friday, replicated the famous Mahendra Singh Dhoni style ‘No Look’ run- out to dismiss Josh Hazlewood and wrap up Australia’s first innings of the third Test at Ranchi.
In the 138th over, skipper Steven Smith’s attempt to steal a quick double and keep the strike failed badly as Jadeja – with the help of KL Rahul – ran out Hazlewood.
Dhoni’s trickery during the fourth ODI against New Zealand few months ago resulted in a freak dismissal of Ross Taylor. The wicket-keeper collected a throw from Dhawal Kulkarni from the deep fine leg region and hit the wickets with his back facing stumps. The crowd was wowed by the effort. Jadeja also repeated the similar act on Friday. It was almost a repeat of Dhoni’s freak antic; the only difference was the run-out occurred at the bowler’s end with no gloves involved.
India had begun to wipe off the tail when Umesh Yadav snapped Steve O’ Keefe and Nathan Lyon fell to Jadeja an over later. Smith chose to implement the right idea of saving the last man by keeping most of the strike. The tactic, however, lasted only eight balls. Smith hit a fuller delivery on the pads to deep fine leg and rushed for a quick single. Noticing Rahul reacting but slow the Aussie skipper returned for double. To make things bad, the throw also was off the direction but Jadeja applied his mind and moved a bit wide to collect the ball and direct it to the stumps (with his back facing the stumps). This quickly reminded every one of the act that Dhoni did a few months ago.
The excitement was obviously visible on Twitter where fans appreciated Jadeja out of the box thinking. Here are a few tweets:
