India vs Australia 2017, 3rd Test, Day 3: Twitter Reacts As Cheteshwar Pujara Keeps India In Game With Fighting Ton
Mar 18, 2017 at 4:56 PM
Riding on Cheteshwar Pujara’s unbeaten knock of 130, India finished Day 3 of the third Test against Australia at 360/6, still 91 runs behind the visitors.
Resuming the day at 120 for 1, Cheteshwar Pujara and Murali Vijay began cautiously and took their time. With the Australian bowlers bowling a tight line, the Indian batsmen found it tough to play their shots. However, they held firm and began scoring once they got a measure of the pitch. But a moment of madness on the stroke of lunch saw Vijay getting stumped out after he came out of his crease to loft Steve O’Keefe. The visitors made further inroads into the match after Pat Cummins dismissed Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane cheaply. Both the wickets, however, were avoidable as Kohli went hard at a full ball and edged one to slip while Rahane tried to guide a short ball over slips but only managed to edge it to the wicketkeeper.
Pujara and Karun Nair managed to stop the rot for a bit with a steady stand but just when the partnership was getting good, the latter was clean bowled by Josh Hazlewood. Eight runs later, Cummins struck again to dismiss Ravichandran Ashwin and reduced India to 328/6. Pujara and Wriddhiman Saha then saw off the remaining overs to help hosts finish the day without suffering any further setback.
