India vs Australia 2017: Ajinkya Rahane Kept The Energy Well In Virat’s Absence: R Sridhar

Indian team suffered a setback in the 40th over of the game when Indian skipper Virat Kohli landed on his shoulder in an awkward way and did not come back on the field after that. It was vice-captain Ajinkya Rahne who took up the responsibility to lead the team for the remaining day but couldn’t do much good on a pitch that favoured batsmen.

Indian team grabbed three wickets in the first session and it looked like the bowlers will cash upon a good start but after Kohli’s exit from the ground, the Indian team looked like losing the ‘Midas’ touch.

The Indian field coach R Sridhar though praised Ajinkya Rahane as he said that Rahane did a good job in absence of Virat Kohli,

“Ajinkya did a very good job. He was very sure of his plans. Ajinkya being Ajinkya, he was taking advice from the seniors, Ashwin and Ishant. “In Virat’s absence, he kept the energy well. He positioned himself in the outfield and made sure he communicated well with the bowlers,” Sridhar said at the post-match press conference.

“It was probably the better batting day in the series so far. Pitch was nice and placid. It’s not that we are in the situation for the first time during this home season. It was a very good day one batting track. We will see how it unfolds tomorrow. There were a few good spells from Umesh, he was coming and giving it really hard, getting the ball to reverse a bit. There was not too much of pace in the wicket to try too many bouncers. So it was not in the plan and we tried a few ones to surprise the batsmen,” the Indian fielding coach added.

Sridhar also revealed that Kohli will be going scans and the exact status regarding Kohli’s will be known on morning of day two,

“Virat’s injury, the exact status of that will be known first thing tomorrow morning. He is going to undergo some scans later today and we will know the exact status of it tomorrow morning. What happened today was that we took a precaution to make sure that he does not aggravate that injury.

“As far as the technique of the dive is concerned, I think it was quite an intense chase to the boundary line and in his intent to save that one run, he stopped the ball and landed on his right shoulder when he rolled over. The impact was quite heavy because of the momentum he was carrying and so there was a shock on his right shoulder. That is the current status,” added Sridhar.

But in the latest news, it has been confirmed that Virat Kohli has been ruled out of the Test match. Australia was in a strong position at stumps as they had posted a total of 299 runs at loss of four wickets.
