India Vs Australia, 2nd Test: India Cameback Strongly As Pujara, Rahane Shoulder Responsibility After Six Star Jadeja Show

While pulling up their socks Indian batters Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane had shown some incredible concentration to keep the scoreboard ticking and further chipped in with the vital contribution to stay in the hunt in order to keep the hopes alive for the M Chinnaswamy Test as the situation was totally different at a tea break when India was teetering at 120 for four.

Indian dressing room would be happy after both the right-handers Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane had put on a match-saving partnership of 93 for the fifth wicket to see the hosts leading against Australia by 126 runs in the second innings.

When the stumps were drawn on Day three of the second Test, India posted 214 on board for four in 72 overs. Pujara is unbeaten on 79 off 173 and Rahane 40 off 105 as Australia bogged down the crucial chances they were offered during the innings.

Pujara, who had anchored the Indian innings was put down on just four when Smith missed a low sharp chance to his left in the first slip on the bowling of off-spinner Nathan Lyon.

Earlier, India openers in the form of Abhinav Mukund and KL Rahul put on resilient effort when they added vital 39 runs for the first wicket.

Mukund was dismissed in the first over after lunch as Josh Hazlewood disturbed his stumps when he was batting on 16 off 32 balls. Mukund was clueless where the ball was going.

KL Rahul, who had shown some courage made a well compiled fifty (51 off 85 balls) before Steven Smith took a spectacular catch at slip cordon while diving to his right on the bowling of Steve O’Keefe. Smith completed the catch in the second slip.

Indian skipper, Virat Kohli, who had a dismal show in the last four innings, was given LBW when he scored 15 off 25 balls. However, Kohli asked for the review which was upheld as it turned out to be the umpire call. Interestingly, Kohli had now 34 unsuccessful reviews out off 44.

The left-handed batsman Ravindra Jadeja (2 off 12 balls) was promoted up the order, but that did not yield any good for skipper Kohli as he bowled on a beauty by Hazlewood which saw India 120 for four.

In 16 overs, Hazlewood, who was the pick of the bowlers for the visitors claimed three wickets while giving away 57 runs. However, eight-star performer in the first innings Nathan Lyon has gone wicketless after bowling 27 overs in the second innings.

After resuming from the overnight score of 237 for six Ravindra Jadeja rolled over his golden arm to clinch three wickets in the morning session of the third day in Bengaluru.

Coming back in the game with the bowl, India wrapped up the visitors’ last four wickets inside 31 balls while giving away just seven runs.

The left-arm orthodox spinner Ravindra Jadeja bagged three wickets in five overs on day three as he claimed six wickets in an innings to see Australia bundled out for 276 in 122.4 overs following the healthy lead of 87 in the first innings as they added 39 runs on the third morning of the second Test.

Interestingly, Jadeja has bowled less than the other premier bowlers in the line-up. In 21.4 overs Jadeja picked six wickets while conceding 63 runs. Ashwin and Jadeja shared eight wickets out of all 10 wickets in Australian first innings.

Mitchell Starc, who added 12 runs to his overnight score of 14, was the first man to go on 26 off 52 balls when he was caught brilliantly by Ravindra Jadeja in deep on the bowling of Ravichandran Ashwin.

The wicket-keeper batsman Matthew Wade scored 40 off 113 balls before he was adjudged LBW on the bowling of Jadeja

Nathan Lyon (0 off 1 ball), Josh Hazlewood (1 off 9 balls) were also dismissed by Jadeja.
