India Vs Australia: KL Rahul Eyes A Big Knock In Second Innings Of Dharamsala Decider

The right-handed opening batsman, KL Rahul is determined to do well in the second innings of the four-match series decider in Dharamsala after playing a rash shot off the bowling of Pat Cummins.

“I thoroughly enjoyed batting (in this series). Hopefully one more good knock and the second innings might be the time. I will go out with positive intent in the second innings,” KL Rahul was quoted as saying by reuters

After scoring 60 off 124 balls, Rahul lost the concentration when Cummins peppered him with the short balls before giving a simple catch to David Warner inside the 30-yard circle.

Rahul further stated it’s his responsibility to give the team a decent start.

“As an opening batsman, it’s my responsibility to spend as much time in the middle as I can and try and get big scores in the first innings so that we don’t have to bat in the second innings,” KL Rahul added.

Rahul was disappointed for not being able to convert the starts for his team while stating it’s important to focus on your game in a bid to extend an innings to draw the satisfaction.

“Not regretting anything but a little disappointed that I haven’t been able to convert the starts into big runs for my team,” Rahul further added.

This season, the 24-year-old has failed to convert his five fifties into a big knock during the ongoing Border-Gavaskar series.

“Horrible execution for sure. I had batted in the middle for a long time and I thought I could take him on…,” Rahul responded on his dismissal.

Since making his debut in 2014, the Karnataka star has smashed four hundreds and six fifties at an average of 42.55 to cement his place in the Test team at the top.

“We need to learn to put our hands up and take the pressure and the responsibility. This game is a good opportunity for the rest of the guys to stand up and be counted,” Rahul remarked.

Rahul, who has so far scored 342 runs in the ongoing series, is hopeful of delivering the knockout punch after failing to convert double digits into triple figures.

The young opener has also praised Virat Kohli for gelling the team well. Kohli is nursing the shoulder injury which he picked up during the Ranchi Test.

“He [Virat Kohli] always sets great examples for us and he leads from the front,” Rahul concluded.

At stumps, India posted 248 for six on board in 91 overs and is trailing by 52 runs with four wickets in hand.
