India Vs Bangladesh: Five Talking Points Of Day Two In Hyderabad

India declared their first innings after Virat Kohli smashed double hundred and Wriddhiman Saha notched his Test career’s second hundred – to set up the mammoth total of 687 for 6 in 166 overs.

At stumps on Day Two of the one-off Test, Bangladesh scored 41 for the loss of one with Tamim Iqbal unbeaten on 24 off 48 balls and Mominul Haque 1 off five deliveries.

Sarkar was caught by Saha on the bowling of Umesh Yadav on 15 off 31 balls.

Bangladesh are trailing by 646 runs and require another 447 to avoid the follow-on.

Here’re the five talking points of the Day Two between India-Bangladesh:

Virat Kohli’s Double Hundred Dash: Indian skipper and aggressive batsman Virat Kohli, who has scored a double hundred on the Day Two of the sole-Test against Bangladesh in Hyderabad, made the day of fans while flaying the visitors bowling line-up at his backyard.

While putting his foot on the accelerator, the right-handed batsman Kohli, who started from his overnight score of 111, has smashed 204 off 246 balls which included 24 boundaries at the strike-rate of 82.93.

The 28-year-old Kohli has also become the first batsman overall in history to register four consecutive double hundreds in four Test series which includes the series against Bangladesh (204 at Hyderabad), England (235 in Mumbai), New Zealand (211 in Indore) and West Indies (200 in Antigua).

Having the remarkable run with the bat, Kohli became the third cricketer to register 200-run mark in a season after his countryman Rahul Dravid, who scored in 2003-04 season and Australia’s Sir Don Bradman in 1930s.

Wriddhiman Saha’s Solid Return: The 32-year-old wicket-keeper batsman Wriddhiman Saha on his return has scored a sublime hundred against Bangladesh at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium after coming from decent performances at domestic level.

Saha, who missed the last three Test matches against England, has registered his second Test hundred of his career in 21st Test.

Before the declaration came at 687 for six, Saha was unbeaten on 106 off 155 balls which included seven boundaries and two sixes at the strike-rate of 68.39.

Saha, who scored his first Test century against West Indies in Gros Islet in August last year has become the first Indian gloveman to register a hundred at home and away when he scored a triple figure-mark against The Tigers.

Saha, who seems technically sound behind the stumps has helped his side Rest of India (ROI) in domestic game against maiden Ranji Trophy winners Gujarat in the Irani Cup.

In 21 Tests, Saha has scored 839 runs at an average of 32.26 which includes two hundreds and four fifties.

The Musfiqur’s Miss: After the first day of the sole-Test witnessed sloppy fielding from Bangladesh it was again repeated by tired-looking Tigers and this time from the skipper Mushfiqur Rahim itself.

Gloveman Wriddhiman Saha got a reprieve at four in the 118th over when Bangladesh wicket-keeper Mushfiqur missed an easy chance to dislodge the bails in his first attempt off the bowling of left-arm spinner Taijul Islam.

Saha came down the pitch in a bid to hit the ball into the stands, but missed the ball completely.

However, Mushfiqur removed the bails in the second attempt as TV replays showed Saha was well back into the crease.

The Day In Numbers: Virat Kohli has eclipsed past former Indian opener Virender Sehwag’s score of 1105 at home Test season.

Kohli has crossed Sehwag’s record mark in his 15th innings against Bangladesh when he scored 1168 in 2016-17.

In 2004-05 season, the right-handed batsman Sehwag had registered the feat.

India had set their name in record books by registering 600-plus scores in three consecutive Test matches including Mumbai, Chennai and the ongoing Test in Hyderabad.

Opening resistance from Bangladesh: After the bowlers leaked runs and poor ground stops add to their worries in the first innings against formidable India, Bangladesh left-handed opening batsmen Tamim Iqbal and Soumya Sarkar showed some fight in first eleven overs to put on 38 runs for the first wicket.

Sarkar returned to the pavillion after Kohli asked for a review when Saha completed a fine catch behind the stumps.

The replays suggested there was a spike on Sarkar’s bat off the bowling of Umesh Yadav in 12th over of Bangladesh innings.
