India vs Bangladesh One-Off Test: “It Was A Challenge To Bowl On A Flat Track” Says Taskin Ahmed

Bangladesh had a great start to their first and the historic Test match against India in India as Taskin Ahmed was able to draw the first wicket of the day on the fourth delivery by castling the stumps of KL Raul. A feeling of Bangladesh dominating the game crossed the mind but soon it disappeared when Murali Vijay and Cheteshwar Pujara stood there in the first arduous hour of the day, taking everything coming to them. Both went on to deflate the energy of Bangladesh bowling line-up and then went on to share 178 runs for the second wicket, aiding India to gain an advantage by the end of the day.

Taskin Ahmed, the first successful wicket-taker for Bangladesh on day one said that it was a challenge for him to bowl on this wicket as he said,

“Actually on this kind of wicket, bowlers have to be patient. You can’t bowl too many loose deliveries as batsmen find it easy. Bowlers have to be patient. Only if the batsman makes mistakes, then you can get out. It was a new experience for me because I am playing only my third Test and against India, it’s my first Test. It was new experience bowling on a flat wicket. The first hour, it was moving a bit but after that, it was dry and flat. Another thing is that their batsmen also batted well.”

To test and analyse Taskin’s words, one has to wait for India’s bowling as Indian team has gone with three pacers and if they will be able to perform above him, then these words from Ahmed will none less be than just an excuse.

“I also bowled short so did he (Rabbi) and they picked it up well after lunch. Rabbi bowled well in New Zealand but perhaps erred in bowling the New Zealand length in India.

“There was good carry for the bouncers at the start but after the wicket got slower, the bouncers didn’t rear up. It was coming at half-short height. Also, you can’t bowl completely full length as they were easily driving. One needs to hit the good length,” Taskin added.

Indian team was three down with a score of 356 by the end of the first day’s play with Virat Kohli batting on a score of 111* along with Ajinkya Rahane (45*).
