India Vs England 1st T20 – India’s Predicted XI

India’s performance was comprehensive in the three match ODI series, as Virat Kohli’s tenure as the full-time skipper got off to a dream start. In a series full of run glutton, it was the hosts who ended up bossing England, thanks to an optimum cocktail of youth and experience. In the due course of the three games played over a week’s span, India discovered a gem in Kedar Jadhav, for whom finishing the innings with a flurry seems a perfect task.

For the T20I’s though, India cannot afford to get complacent by any means. On 26th January, as Virat Kohli will step out for the toss, he will be India’s fifth captain in this particular format and will be up against a side that ended up as runners-up in the previous World T20.

With ace spinners R. Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja rested, it will be interesting to see India’s outlook.

Thereby, we guess a predicted XI for the first T20I at Kanpur.

kl-rahul

  1. KL Rahul:

Probably after a disastrous ODI series, Rahul will be keen to make amends in the T20I series. The last time he batted in this format in Florida, he set the arena ablaze with a scintillating century which made people aware of this lad’s destructive abilities. There isn’t a better opportunity for Rahul now to leave an impression after three underwhelming outings in the ODI’s. Three great knocks, and Rahul can easily change the selectors’ perception about his form.

  1. Rishab Pant:

Exactly 12 months ago, Pant was gearing  up for the Under 19 World Cup in Bangladesh. A year later, life has prospered for the young Delhi sensation, as he is in line to make his international debut. In these 12 months, Pant has amassed and rewritten record books in the domestic circuit without breaking a sweat. To add to that, an eye-catching half-century in the warm-up game against England has further propelled his case for selection. Given his talent, Pant could well be the X Factor which this Indian team is on the lookout for.

Virat Kohli raises his bat after completing his fifty against England during third ODI at Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
  1. Virat Kohli (c):

A T20I career batting average slightly over 57 is more than enough to showcase the brute charisma of a beast called Virat Kohli. In 2016, as India played a flurry of T20I’s, Kohli was the spine of the team and single handedly won India countless matches. Now, after being promoted to the captaincy, there will be an added responsibility on this run machine. Expect Kohli to thrive further, as he loves leading from the front with a broad chest.

  1. Yuvraj Singh:

The ODI series was a dream run for this lion of Punjab as he slaughtered England at Cuttack to register a career best score of 150. At this moment, Yuvraj seems to be in the groove to decimate the bowlers right from the word go, and in the shortest form of the game, the chances of him doing so rise even more. Yuvraj has been a stalwart in this format and one can expect a fantastic outing from him at Kanpur.

  1. MS Dhoni (wk):

It might not be wrong to say that Dhoni has looked like a pale shadow of his ODI beast in T20I’s, as he has often failed to replicate that success here. Unlike his countless successful finishes in ODI’s, Dhoni’s record as a supreme finisher takes a tumble when it boils down to the shortest format. Playing for the first time since his debut T20I game without the burden of captaincy, it will be interesting to see what role Dhoni is assigned for the series.

Suresh Raina
  1. Suresh Raina:

Playing at his home ground, Suresh Raina will be upbeat to leave an impression in the series. After the heroics of Kedar Jadhav, it is safe to say that Raina has lost his place in the ODI side. If he is to have any hopes of extending his international career, the T20I series would be that last chance. Keeping in mind the fact that he is a livewire on the field, Raina’s inclusion will be a good move indeed.

Hardik Pandya celebrates a wicket.
Hardik Pandya celebrates a wicket.
  1. Hardik Pandya:

Pandya made his debut on 26th January 2016 in a T20I encounter against Australia at Adelaide, and since then, has emerged as the all-rounder India was on the hunt for. He had an excellent ODI series where he didn’t just pick up wickets frequently, but even played a couple of priceless knocks. His overs will be profusely crucial for India as a couple of wickets from him will hand the side great leverage over England.

Parvez Rasool
  1. Parvez Rasool:

The call to rest Jadeja and Ashwin meant that an avenue opened up for a consistent performer like Parvez Rasool. Despite not playing too many IPL games, Rasool has been around for a few years now in the domestic circuit and has plenty of experience under his belt. He isn’t a big turner of the ball like Ashwin but relies more on accuracy. This call-up is a deserved reward for Rasool after toiling on the domestic front.

mishra

  1. Amit Mishra:

Mishra relishes the prospects of playing T20 cricket and that is obvious by his extraordinary numbers in this format. He is among the leading Indian wicket takers in T20’s and given his skills with the ball, he is a proven match winner. Given England’s woes against spin, Mishra’s overs could turn out to be the difference.

  1. Jasprit Bumrah:

After going through a lull in the ODI series, Bumrah will want to redeem himself with a stellar performance in the T20I’s. He is an absolute sensation in this particular format and was the leading wicket taker in T20I’s last year. Bumrah’s ability to hit the block hole in the last few overs well be imperative for India’s chances.

  1. Ashish Nehra:

It was in this very format where Nehra marked his return to international cricket after 5 years and was simply superb. An injury during the latter stages of the IPL disrupted his plans, but now that he is back, Nehra will aim to be at his best.
