India vs England 2016, 5th Test: Twitter Reacts As Ravindra Jadeja’s Seven-For Leads Thumping Win Over England
Dec 20, 2016 at 4:19 PM
Ravindra Jadeja took seven wickets on the final day as Virat Kohli-led India defeated England by an innings and 75 runs in the fifth Test to register their biggest series win over the visitors.
Earlier, a draw was looking the most likely result after Alastair Cook and Keaton Jennings shared a century stand for the first wicket before Ravindra Jadeja turned the match on its head with three quick scalps. Jadeja broke the 103-run partnership between Jennings and Cook after dismissing the latter for the sixth time in the series. Seven runs later, Jadeja caught and bowled Keaton Jennings for 54.
A few overs later, the visitors were looking down the barrel after the Indian all-rounder had caught Joe Root plumb in front of the wicket. Trying to sweep, Root failed to connect with the ball and it hit him on the pad. Virat Kohli took the review and it turned out to be a successful one. In-form Jonny Bairstow was the next to go after Jadeja took a stunning catch as England lost four wickets in the second session.
The story did not change after the break too as England kept on losing wickets at regular intervals. Moeen Ali became Jadeja’s fourth victim when he stepped out to hit a flighted delivery but hit it straight to R Ashwin at mid-on. In his next over, the left-arm spinner picked up his sixth five-wicket haul in Tests when he dismissed Ben Stokes. Amit Mishra soon joined the party when he clean bowled Liam Dawson for a duck. Adil Rashid and Jos Buttler then managed to keep the Indian spinners at bay for around six overs before Virat Kohli took the new ball. His ploy immediately paid off as Umesh Yadav had Rashid on the very first delivery with the new ball. Jadeja then took the remaining two wickets to cap off a fine series for the hosts.
Here is how Twitter reacted to the absorbing day’s play:

Virtually nothing from Kohli, Pujara and Ashwin. And yet a win. Most encouraging aspect of the test for India

Ashwin has bowled as well in last Test of 2016 as in previous 11 which got him 71 wickets. Only 1 at his home ground. Cricket. Life. Sigh.

Oh good, one last dreadful England collapse before this debacle of a tour ends. Cook had better have his resignation speech ready. #INDvENG
