India vs England Fourth Test Day Three : 4 Talking Points!

It is stumps at day three and India has the edge over England as they lead the Englishmen by 51 runs with the Indian skipper Virat Kohli still at the crease. The Wankhede saw two centurions on day 3 of the fourth Test with Virat Kohli scoring 147* and Murali Vijay scoring 136. England have a tough job at hand tomorrow when they come out to bowl as they need to bowl out India as soon as possible if they are to win the Test match which seems unlikely now.

Here are the 4 talking points of the day :

Murali Vijay’s fantastic ton : Murali Vijay once again hits form as he scored a brilliant 136 of 282 balls at the Wankhede in Mumbai. Vijay’s performance with the bat was much appreciated and his partnership with Virat Kohli and Cheteshwar Pujara built the base for a huge total for India. Vijay’s innings included 10 fours and three sixes at a strike rate 48.23.

Virat Kohli’s wonderful batting : Virat Kohli brought up his 1000 runs in Tests in 2016 as he hit his 15th test ton in style. Virat Kohli led from the front as a captain when his middle order collapsed cheaply. The right handed batsman kept his wicket intact till the end and went on to score the ton seeing away spin which the other batsmen found tough to handle. Kohli’s innings include 17 boundaries. Kohli is still batting at 147 from 241 deliveries as the bowlers failed to get rid of the Indian captain.

Jayant Yadav’s fighting innings : On a day when the Indian middle order collapsed quickly, Jayant Yadav held his nerve. There was a time when Virat Kohli was falling short of partners as Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Karun Nair and Parthiv patel all went back to the pavilion quickly. But Jayant Yadav refused to give away his wicket on a pitch which assisted the spinners well. Yadav remains unbeaten on 30 hitting 3 boundaries.

Good day for the English spinners : Though the English spinners could not get rid of the main man Virat Kohli, they bowled particularly well on a pitch that suited them to an extent. The three spinners Moeen Ali, Adil Rashid and Joe Root picked up 2 wickets each on the third day of the 4th test match at Wankhede. Joe Root was the most economical of the three who bowled at an economy rate of 2.25. The spinners did well to remove the Indian middle order quickly.
