India vs England: Predicting India’s 15-Man Squad For Five-Test Series!

As a result of the 3-0 series win over New Zealand, the Indian team will be roaring in confidence. Thus, they might not make many changes in the squad.

But players fitness will be an issue for the selecting committee.

Considering that, here’s a list of the 15 members that might play in the series.

1) Virat Kohli:

With two double Hundreds this year and back to back series win, Virat Kohli will be high on confidence both as a skipper and as a batsman.
He will look to continue his good form against England. The wounds of
the series loss against England would surely be in his mind.
And he would like to give it back to them in the same fashion with a
huge series win.

2) Murli Vijay: Even though he didn’t have a great series against New
Zealand, he’s one reliable batsman that India will always count on.
Especially against a quality fast bowling attack like England with the
likes of Anderson and Broad.

His place in the playing is safe as long as he scores in this series.

3) KL Rahul:
Though his fitness might be an issue in the 1st test, he still can make it into the 15, Also, considering a long run of 5 test matches he should make the squad by hook or crook.
He played just 1 Test against New Zealand but played 2 brisk
innings of 34 and 38 before injury ruled him out for the remaining 2 Tests.
If he’s fit, he will occupy the 2nd openers’ slot without any doubt.

4) Gautam Gambhir:

Gautam Gambhir got a golden opportunity to represent India after 2 years when injuries ruled out Shikar Dhawan and KL Rahul.

Well, he didn’t make full use of it but made his case with by scoring a
brisk 50 showing his aggressive style of batting.
With a question mark over Shikhar’s form and injuries, Gambhir made his case strong by scoring 147 in the Ranji trophy game.

5) Cheteshwar Pujara :

By being the highest run scorer in the New Zealand series,

With 3 half centuries and a magnificent hundred in the 3rd Test, Pujara answered all his critics in style.
For those taking about his low strike rate, he scored 101 runs in 148 balls with a strike rate of 68. Thus, he cleared all the questions raised on him.

6) Ajinkya Rahane:

Currently the most consistent batsman for India in tests. He had a
very good series against the Kiwis. His score of 188 along with
Virat’s career best 211 set the tone for India’s win in the 3rd test.
His contributions in the slips also cannot be neglected.

7)  Rohit Sharma:

There was a lot of talk about Rohit’s inclusion in the test side and management was giving him a more than enough chances.

The pressure was on him and he didn’t disappoint. Even though he didn’t do much in the 1st test, but in the remaining 2 tests he made some vital contributions down the order when needed and made sure that India has a healthy lead to declare the innings.

8) Wriddhiman Saha:
He has been very good down the order Forming vital partnerships with Rohit Sharma and Ashwin.
A number of times he steadied the ship when the top order collapsed.
Also, his contributions behind the stumps cannot be neglected.
He was the man of the match in the 2nd test and hence must be confident.

9)  Ravichandran Ashwin:-
With 27 wickets in the Series against New Zealand and three 5 wickets
hauls, there was no doubt that Ashwin was gonna take his 5th  man of
the series award equaling Sachin and Sehwag record.
With the ball rolling for him, Ashwin will fancy his chances against
the English batsman and will eye for another M-O-S.
He’s batting has won the confidence of the skipper as he now bats at
no 6 and yes he does play like a proper batsman.

10)  Ravindra Jadeja:

After making a comeback in the test team, Jadeja has been consistent ever since with the ball.

He has supported Ashwin very well and the duo has done major of the
damage for India.
With 1 five wicket haul, he was the 2nd highest wicket taker for India.
With the limited chances, he got to bat he did well to get 40-50 odd
runs, With 1 half century in the 1st test.

11)  Amit Mishra :
He had been warming the bench for too long, little did we know that he
would turn out to be a man of the series in ODIs against New Zealand
with 15 wickets which include a 5-fer.
Seeing England’s horrific performance against the Bangladeshi spinners, India might go with 3 spinners against them. Even If India goes with 2 spinners he has made a strong case to include him in the playing XI.
He has worked on his batting as well and can be handy lower down the order.

12) Mohammed Shami :

The star player was rested for the ODI series, considering the long
test season ahead. Mohammed Shami was fierce in his spells. He picked up 8 wickets in the series and troubled the batsmen with his ability to hit the deck hard.
IF India decides to go with 3 spinners and 1 fast bowler,
seems like he will easily make it into the 11.

13) Umesh Yadav:-

After Shami was rested for the ODI series, the responsibility to lead the fast bowling attack fell upon him and he did no disappoint.

He was impressive with his pace and troubled the batsman with those short balls.

Getting Opportunity in the 1st and the 3rd test he did a decent job
getting Some early wickets up the order.

14)  Bhuvneshwar Kumar:
First of all, he will need to prove his fitness. He played just the 1 test against new Zealand while injury ruling him out for the rest.

In the 2nd test that he played,he was Fantastic.

The conditions in Kolkata suited his type of bowling and picked up a 5
fer in the very 1st innings.
In the coming test, he might have to compete with his own teammates
for a spot in playing 11.

15) Ishant Sharma :-
Chikungunya ruled him out from the entire test series against new Zealand.
Even if he is fit now,he wasn’t at his best in the Ranji trophy games.
due to his ability to bowl long spells and with his experience in this hand he can make it into the squad.
If the management makes some interesting decision Shardul Thakur can occupy his place.
