India vs England Second Test Day 3: Five Talking Points!

It was a day of bowling brilliance from Ravichandran Ashwin and a day of batting excellence from Virat Kohli for India. It was all India on the third day of the second test between India and England as India has a fine chance of wrapping up the test match in the next two days.

India has a lead of 298 runs with the loss of just 3 wickets and could be well on their way to building a 450 plus run lead.

Here are 5 talking points from the day :

Ashwin’s brilliant performance : Ravichandran Ashwin bowled with vigour once again as he picked up a total of 5 wickets in the first innings of the second test match between India and England. He picked up the wickets of Joe Root, Ben Duckett, Ben Stokes, Stuart Broad and James Anderson. Ashwin’s prolific bowling bowled out England well short of India’s total giving India a lead of 200 runs. He did not bowl particularly well in the first test but came back strongly in the second. Ashwin picking up wickets are always good signs for the Indian team.

England escapes the follow-on : England despite being bowled out for 255 runs somehow managed to escape the follow on. If they had not managed that England could have been in greater trouble. The started the day at 103/5 and at a point it looked like they would not be able to cross 200. But courtesy to Ben Stokes who has improved a lot on his batting scored a slow and steady 70 well partnered by Jonny Bairstow. Bairstow also struck a half ton scoring 53 from 152 balls.

Indian openers fail : Indian openers Murali Vijay and KL Rahul failed again in the second innings like the first to put some runs on the board as they fell for 3 and 10 respectively. Both the batsmen got out to Stuart Broad who was under a lot of pressure to perform in the test. Vijay and Rahul’s failure once again left it to the skipper Virat Kohli to steady the ship and take India’s lead to a respectable position.

Virat Kohli does it again : Virat Kohli as always was steady and excellent with the bat as he remains unbeaten on the crease at 56. Virat has often been India’s rescuer when the team needed him to deliver. So it is no surprise that he has played superbly once again. He is arguably the best batsmen in the world at present and seems to be enjoying his leading responsibilities as well.

India has the upper hand : Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane batted India into a healthy lead of 298 runs in the 3rd innings of the second test match between India and England at Visakhapatnam. India clearly has the upper hand now in the test match with 7 batters yet to bat for them. If India could build a lead of 400 plus within the first session of play tomorrow, India would have the remaining of day 4 and the whole of day 5 to bowl England out.
